Grounds Maintenance and Projects Update

Our grounds team are dedicated to maintaining our cemetery grounds so they look their best at all times throughout the year. Our maintenance schedule includes year-round tasks such as lawn mowing, brush cutting and removal of weeds, as well as seasonal activities such as pruning and planting. Projects to improve cemetery grounds and infrastructure occur throughout the year.

September – November 2021

Spring brings with it a burst of new growth across all our cemeteries and a ramping up of lawn maintenance, brush cutting and weed control.

Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium

  • Ongoing lawn maintenance and brush cutting speeding up with warmer weather
  • Ongoing spraying and removal of weeds
  • Ongoing gardens maintenance for pruning, hedging weed and pest control
  • Mulching of cemetery garden areas in progress
  • Pruning of camellias and roses completed
  • Living Legacy planting season ongoing March to September – last month for planting is September
  • Introduction of new tree species for Living Legacy in progress
  • Construction of Mausoleum of The Holy Way is ongoing, completion scheduled early 2022 – For more information, click here
  • New beams installed in Ascension Hill E and Traditional Monumental
  • Landscape works at Traditional Monumental completed
  • Annual tree inspection to commence

Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery

  • Monthly spraying of brick pathways to remove weeds
  • Monthly brush cutting of graves ceased for winter and spring flowering – winter flowers are coming out in bloom
  • Indian Hawthorn, Freesia’s and Azaleas out in flower
  • Ongoing lawn maintenance
  • Weekly clearing and blowing of pathways and emptying of bins
  • Turfing of the Carriageway occurring September to December – For more information, click here
  • Annual pruning of shrubs and hedges completed
  • Annual tree inspections to commence

Field of Mars Cemetery

  • Ongoing lawn maintenance and brush cutting speeding up with warmer weather
  • Ongoing spraying and removal of weeds
  • Annual pruning of shrubs and hedges completed
  • Rose pruning completed
  • Mulching of all garden areas completed
  • Annual tree inspection to commence

Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery

  • Ongoing lawn maintenance and brush cutting speeding up with the warmer weather
  • Ongoing spraying and removal of weeds, pruning and mulching
  • Maintenance focus on Bushland Memorial Gardens continuing
  • Development of natural burial area off Melaleuca Parade underway – For more information, click here
  • New partner rocks garden opening soon
  • Annual tree inspection to commence

Sandgate Cemetery

  • Ongoing lawn maintenance and brush cutting throughout the cemetery
  • Extensive weed spraying will be continued through the monument area
  • Perimeter fencing damaged by storm due to be replaced by 30 November
  • Pruning of trees along this fence line will be conducted prior to fence installation
  • Lawn access road improvement works to be completed by end November
  • DA to be submitted in the coming weeks for refurbishment of the Chapel
  • New roses are to be planted in the cottage ash garden
  • Hedges to be replaced on the west side of the Garden of Innocents
  • Clearing of fallen tree branches, debris and bushes between Catholic 2 and the bypass will be completed this Spring
  • Removal of a dead tree in Catholic 1 will be conducted in coming weeks
  • Spraying of trees in certain areas will be conducted to improve their health
