Sandgate Cemetery was opened in 1881 and has serviced the burial and cremation needs of Newcastle to this day. As a not-for-profit community organisation, we strive to provide consistency in everything we do whilst ensuring you and your loved ones have access to dignified services and memorialisation.

Gate Opening Times: 6.00am – 6.00pm non daylight saving; 6.00am – 7.00pm daylight saving
Office Hours: 9.00am – 2.00pm Monday; 9.00am – 3.00pm Tuesday – Friday

Impact of weather at Sandgate Cemetery
The ongoing severe weather has had considerable impact on the grounds at Sandgate Cemetery.
Safety of all who visit and work in our cemeteries is our number one priority.
We are therefore continuously assessing for hazards to keep everyone safe. If areas are identified as posing a risk, they may be closed to the public.
Where possible please reschedule your visit to Sandgate Cemetery.
We understand this is not always possible, so please be aware of the increased risks and adopt safe practices which include:
- wearing secure appropriate flat non-slip footwear
- taking extra care when walking around the site
- following guidance by our staff, and not entering areas that have been closed.

Due to the wet conditions the Lawn is closed to public vehicle access.
Please park your vehicle in front of the site office building located at the first access gate.
Follow the path in front of the office building to access the Lawn area.
